From A to B in no time

In a red flash they race past you in the city centre of Groningen: the cyclists of Cycloon Post and Fietskoeriers. On their way they transport mail of all kinds: from a registered letter that has to be sent from A to B urgently to parcels from large online webshops. Perhaps less well-known, but at least as important for the delivery process are the Cycloon Post employees. From their Cycloon Post branch on the Energieweg they ensure that every parcel is ready on time for pickup.

Cycloon is clearly more than a collection of fast cyclists who sustainably fill mailboxes. But it doesn't stop there: behind the scenes, Cycloon also appears to be a facilitator of social progress and personal growth. No less than 80% of the staff at the Postcentrum have a distance to the labor market. At Cycloon, they are given the opportunity, under good guidance, to find a job that offers them satisfaction and a future.

Robert Jan van Wolde, operations manager of Cycloon Post Groningen, is proud of this: “With us, the glass is always half full. We do not look at someone’s limitations, but rather at their many possibilities. This not only provides them with a nice workplace, where they can and may be themselves, but also a real sense of self-esteem. These people often hear that they are different, can’t do anything or don’t want to do anything. But nothing could be further from the truth: you will find the fastest, most motivated employees with us!”

According to Van Wolde, the municipality is also pleased with Cycloon's social approach: "Since they were made responsible for inclusive living and working in the city by the national government, they have been busy enough. With our initiative, we are taking over some of that responsibility."

Smart working

At Cycloon, every employee has a clear, defined task. The open space is also conveniently divided into different action zones and you will find signs with practical indications everywhere. In this way, a tangible and visible structure has been created: everyone knows what to expect.

Cycloon also works with shadow planning and double staffing. “This ensures that every employee gets enough personal attention and that all mail is on the right doormat on time.” A smiling Van Wolde: “Yes, we really work here! It is precisely because of the extra time and energy we invest in our staff that Cycloon is simply a profitable company!”

Recycling

Cycloon consciously chooses to do business socially in its business operations. But sustainability also plays a major role. In the company building on Energieweg, for example, you will mainly find second-hand furniture. Van Wolde: “We don't really look at it looks or trends, but to solidity and quality. That is much more useful.”

The way they handle the bicycles themselves also fits in well with what they do at Cycloon circular-to-cyclone mention: with smart solutions, the head office recycles bicycle parts. This way, the bicycles can be reused again and again. Cycloon also develops bicycles and bicycle trailers in-house: the latter can now transport up to 180 kg. “By doing a little better every day, we can make the world a better place together. Our goal is to get the delivery market moving, so that it becomes cleaner and more social. That's cool!”, Van Wolde concludes enthusiastically.

Yes, definitely cool, we at Waarborg Vastgoed also think so. Waarborg is impressed by the way Cycloon manages to do business both socially and sustainably. And with success. Inspiring!
